Findings relating to Legal and Justice Services

Just over 37% of Our Turn to Speak participants reported experiencing some level of stigma or discrimination when accessing justice and legal services during the last 12 months

Of the 91 participants who selected justice and legal services as one of their top three most affected life domains, 63.8% reported ‘frequent’ or ‘very frequent’ rates of stigma and discrimination in this area.

On average, 53.0% of participants said that they had experienced stigma and discrimination when accessing justice or legal services. 

On average, 55.0% of participants said that they anticipated stigma and discrimination when accessing justice or legal services.

On average, 56.0% of participants said that they had stopped themselves from accessing justice or legal services because of stigma about mental health issues.

31.9% said they have had positive experiences in connection with their complex mental health issues when accessing justice and legal services.
