Findings relating to Healthcare Services

More than 83% of Our Turn to Speak participants reported experiencing some level of stigma or discrimination in accessing or receiving healthcare during the last 12 months

Of the 501 participants who selected healthcare as one of their top three most affected life domains, 60.0% of participants reported ‘frequent’ or ‘very frequent’ experiences of stigma and discrimination in this area.

On average, 60.5% of participants said they had experienced stigma and discrimination in healthcare services. 

On average, 63.0% of participants said they anticipated stigma and discrimination in healthcare services.

On average, 59.3% of participants said they had stopped themselves from accessing or using healthcare services because of stigma about mental health issues. 

43.4% said they have had positive experiences in connection with their complex mental health issues when accessing or using healthcare services.
