Findings relating to Financial and Insurance Services

Just over 50% of Our Turn to Speak participants reported experiencing some level of stigma or discrimination when accessing or using financial and insurance services during the last 12 months.

Of the 140 participants who selected financial and insurance services as one of their top three most affected life domains, 57.9% reported ‘frequent’ or ‘very frequent’ rates of stigma and discrimination.

On average, 59.7% of participants said that they had experienced stigma and discrimination in financial and insurance services. 

On average, 67.5% participants said that they anticipated stigma and discrimination in financial and insurance services.

On average, 65.7% of participants said that they had stopped themselves from accessing or using financial and insurance services because of stigma about mental health issues.  

19.2% said they have had positive experiences in connection with their complex mental health issues when accessing or using financial and insurance services.
